History and Origin Story

The origins for Domestica began in the late 1980s when the founder, Maire Kennedy, experimented with decorating her teenage bedroom. Using brightly-colored house paint she splatter-painted coordinating curtains and base mouldings a la Jackson Pollack, hung scratched vinyl records as a mobile from the ceiling, and hot glued shards of broken mirrors directly to the wall, all to the horror of her parents (she says it was well worth the ensuing grounding). Multiple posters of New Wave bands on the remainder of the walls completed the look and without knowing it, started a trend she would continue with every incarnation of home she would live in from then onwards.
